Tips to Establish a Proper Work-Life Balance

In the supply chain world, things can be very demanding and consuming at times. It is extremely important to establish a healthy work-life balance. This will have positive effects on your mind and body and keep your energy up in all aspects of your life. 
Follow these steps to get started today:

1. Start a Log
Keep a log for a week that tracks your work related and personal activities. Log the time and activity of everything you do.

2. What is Important
Make a list of your top priorities for work and home. Decide what you need to make top priorities and the things that need to move down on your list.

3. Set Specific Goals
It is time to turn those top priorities into goals. Write the goals down. Make them measurable. Block time into your schedule to achieve your goals.

4. Schedule, Schedule, Schedule
Every day, set aside 10 to 20 minutes to plan your tasks and activities for the day and evening ahead. Success means planning!

5. Set Boundaries
Create realistic limits on what you are willing to accomplish at work and at home. If needed, communicate with your boss, coworkers, family, and friends.

6. Don’t Neglect Yourself
Your health is your life! If you aren’t taking care of yourself you will eventually crash. Eat healthy, exercise, and be sure to get some fresh air. Follow up with your doctor as advised and just simply take care of yourself.

7. Family and Other Important Ones
Family, friends and loved ones are the ones that fuel you. Maintain these relationships by creating time for these special people.

Don’t forget about yourself. Schedule at least 30 minutes a day just for you. When completed on a daily basis, this can do so much for your well-being.

9. Leave Work at Work
You need to establish a way to simply not bring work home. Find that mental off switch when leaving the office. This simple step can benefit you greatly.

Have you ever heard of “Work Smart Not Hard”? That is just it. Use your time wisely. Think about things before jumping in. Think of the best way to accomplish a goal by putting thought and then a good effort behind it.

12. Help Yourself
If you have too much on your plate at work, ask for help. This can cut so much stress from your life . If you truly can’t accomplish your workload, maybe it should be re-evaluated. Talk with your supervisor and seek out options.

Don’t try to make too many changes at one time as that can be very overwhelming. Maybe try one step, then another. Be sure and start with a clear measurable goal.
The possibility of having a balanced successful career and a wonderful home life is completely achievable. It will take some time and a lot of effort but it will be well worth it.
