One of the most important things to realize when you are attempting to find a senior level position in the supply chain discipline is that you are trying to sell your services to the companies you are applying to. This means that you need to market yourself in the same way that a company would market itself. The following are a few techniques that you should use in order to market yourself:

  • Use keywords online – When posting your resume online and creating your LinkedIn profile, make sure you use relevant keywords that companies would use to look for people with your skill set. To figure out what kinds of keywords to use, go to job sites such as Dice, Indeed and The Muse in order to read through postings and see what keywords they use in their descriptions.
     
  • Include hyperlinks – Add links to your online resume that show hiring managers evidence that you are the best candidate available. These links need to be relevant to your resume. For example, use links to your personal website or to to websites that showcase some of your work.
     
  • Use eye-catching headlines – One of the biggest aspects of marketing is grabbing the attention of the consumer. Just like a regular business, you need to grab the attention of potential employers by creating eye-catching headlines. Use keywords in your headlines when they are appropriate and focus more on your job titles than on the names of prior employers.
     
  • Streamline your content – When it comes to marketing, it’s important to cut the fat. Get rid of generic phrases and language such as “team player” and the like. You should strongly consider getting rid of that objective section as well. Keep your resume’s content as concise as possible. If you’re going to boast about certain past achievements, use numbers. Numbers stick out and they are also much less vague than words such as “top” or “best.”
