How to Be Irreplaceable in Your Workplace

Be Irreplaceable At Work

One way to achieve job security is to learn how to become irreplaceable in the workplace. Whether you are a young college graduate just starting out or have years of experience, what are some steps that you can take to feel valued and irreplaceable?
Be Someone You Would Want to Be Around

Even if you aren’t the greatest at your job, being affable and well-liked can keep you around for a long time. This is because you are someone who will increase morale and make the workday more enjoyable for everyone there. When people enjoy going to work, there is less turnover and higher productivity, which means that you are making your company money.

Develop and Refine One or Two Key Skills

Having a skill or two that no one else in the workplace has will keep you employed for as long as necessary. For instance, you may want to be the person who knows how to repair the antiquated cash register system or the person who is trained to use the emergency medical equipment. These are skills that will be hard to replace, which will make it hard for your employer to let you go.

Know How to Close a Deal

In baseball, the closer pitches one inning two or three times a week. However, those innings can make the difference between a losing season and a championship. If you can learn how to close a deal, no matter what industry you’re in, you will make a lot of money for your employer. If you can make a lot of money for your employer, you will also make a lot of money even if sales closer is your only responsibility.

Go the Extra Mile
There’s a reason for the phrase, “Go the extra mile. It’s never crowded.” Everyone has their own way to performing a job, but many people stop once they feel the task has been completed. Going above and beyond what is expected of you will always speak volumes to your boss and your coworkers. It shows dedication, commitment and loyalty. These things cannot be taught.
It doesn’t take much to become irreplaceable in the workplace.  With a positive attitude, a willingness to learn, and the tenacity to go above and beyond, your employer will want nothing more than to keep you around.
