working on thanksgiving

Thanksgiving is right around the corner, and odds are you’re looking forward to sitting down to a big turkey dinner along with family and friends – unless you’ve been tasked with working over the holidays. If you work in logistics (i.e. Distribution Manager), you may be at work gearing up for the busy holiday shopping season.

The following are a few ways to make the best out of being scheduled to work over Thanksgiving:

  • Reschedule the Holiday – Sure, everyone is having Thanksgiving on the Thursday that you are scheduled to work, but that doesn’t mean you have to skip it this year. Instead, reschedule your Thanksgiving dinner with your family. You can have it on the Wednesday before or the day right after – or even wait until the weekend to have your personal Thanksgiving. Remember, you can still be thankful even if you’re a few days late.
  • Be Productive While You’re at Work – Go into the day with a plan on what you seek to accomplish for the day.  Since you will be extremely busy, having a plan will ensure that you take care of everything you need to do for the day. use this day to consciously show thanks to your team.
  • Ask About Holiday Meals – Ask management if there’s going to be some kind of holiday meal provided for your team. Many employers will provide a meal or even give you a turkey to bring home for dinner. Some will even allow you to bring a few family members in to enjoy the meal with you!

If you are working over the holidays this year, don’t let it get you down – make the most out of it! Be sure to contact us at Optimum Supply Chain Recruiters for additional employment advice today.
