The thing is, passive candidacy can be much more effective than active job searching. Knowing the right people is often all it takes to advance your career, which is why you should work on building powerful connections.

- Connect with individuals you don’t know – This may seem easier said than done. Begin by doing a little bit of research and find out who is worth knowing based on their positions, reputations and affiliations. Speak with your contacts and ask them to use their connections in order to send a request for an introduction.
